Put 300D trans in 300SD?

Can I put a 1984 300D automatic transmission (#722.315) into a 1984 300SD car?
(1) Will it physically fit (mounting bolts, drive shaft connection, etc.), and (2) is the gearing compatible with the larger car? (The transmission made for the 300SD is # 722.303.)
Are there any other considerations?
-- Thanks much.

You can put a 315 into 303 car without dimensional or mounting problems, but you will have to swap the tail cone to retain the electronic speedometer. Not hard to do once the transmissions are out.

You will need to confirm that the diff ratios are the same or it will throw off the accuracy of the speedo.

Search the forum. I know there are a couple of good threads about this.

I have a .303 transmission with only 84k miles on it for sale out of an 81' 300TD. the only year a wagon had the electric speedo. I have it listed on ebay right now or email me for more info.
