Rear Driver Side Parking Brake Cable
Hello Everyone,
Last July (yes, it's been a while), I attempted to put on the parking brake, there was a loud pop, and my foot went to the floor. I just crawled under the car, and the cable going to the driver side parking brake snapped at the splitter in the center of the car. Do I need to remove the whole parking brake assembly to replace the cable? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Anyone? I've never pulled the parking brake apart before. Just curious if I can replace the cable by just pulling of the rotor?

I think so. If you pull the rotor, you should see whether or not you can. There's a cast end on the cable that fits in the expander. And a guide that bolts on to the back side of the hub carrier, I think.

You're almost certainly going to have to remove the shoes to separate the cable end from the expander. The cable ferrule bolts to the back of the dust shield. If it's rusty, it can take some persuasion to push it out. Be gentle as you can, so as not to bend the dust shield.

You can do it without removing the shoes I believe. I think I wrote up the procedure when I installed a new cable on the replacement trailing arm for my daughter's SD. I'll see if I can find the post.
