Brake fluid reservoir tank
This is not directly diesel related, although the truck is a diesel, but there are some good mechanical minds here so I have a question. My 99 Fuso FG cabover truck had a slight brake fluid leak. Masters for clutch and brakes are up under the dash fed by a tank also way up under the dash. Tank is filled by popping out a section of the dash in the corner near the door. Leak is small--maybe 5 tablespoons a month but it's irritating because the fluid drops on the floor gets on your left shoe and then your foot slips on the clutch pedal.
So I had to take the truck to the dealer to readjust the front brakes they rebuilt a couple of months ago. I asked them to investigate the leak. They discovered it is leaking out the fluid level sensor which is inserted into the bottom of the tank. Tank and sensor are sold together and are no longer available from Fuso. They ordered a used tank from Busbees and will install it. However I have a concern that the used tank will follow the path of my old tank and start leaking out of the sensor. So I asked the dealer to keep the old leaking tank for me and I plan to try to remove the senso and take it to a plastic welder who could weld the sensor hole shut. I'd then have a leakproof replacement. Anybody see any other Options. There are after market tanks available but this thing is an odd shape since it's designed to squeeze into the upper corner under the dash. Anybody see any issue with not having a fluid level sensor. I figure I can jump ther terminals to turn off the light.
