GT2056V Turbo from 07 ML320 CDI

I have a turbo out of my 07 ML320 CDI. It's a Garrett GT2056V. It had been taken apart some years ago when it was taken out of my vehicle and I am now getting around to reassembling it, but there are a couple pieces I don't know where they go.

If anyone has a parts diagram that would be truly appreciated...

It was replaced at 55,000 miles with a new one, same model.

To make a long story short, we were chasing an oil leak and the mechanic thought it may have been from the turbo. Not sure what was going on there. Part of me thinks it was ok and the oil I was seeing on the driveway and in the turbo was from the elephant hose. I was having the swirl motor replaced because it had failed at the time, probably due to the oil getting in it from the leak. Turbo worked ok when removed and when it was pulled I tried to have it rebuilt rather than put in a new one, the shop couldn't do it and I ended up with it all in parts. I wish I had been a little more familiar with the vehicle and at the time...but oh well, lesson learned.

Right now, just have a case of tinkeritis and maybe I can do something with it someday. I have the center part of it with the variable vanes etc. all together. and the turbines/shaft put together.

Take some pictures of the parts in questioned. It will help us better understand what you are looking at.

Here they are. The first picture shows the three parts I am figuring out sitting inside the ring for where the two exhaust parts fit together. I have since figured out that upside down hat looking thing fits in the "face-plate" on the intake side where the shaft passes through it...see 2nd picture...

The Washer appears to go on the shaft on the intake side underneath the faceplate (again see 2nd picture).

So where the spacer thing goes? On top of the washer? It seems to make sense cause I can see wear marks on the washer...

It's been awhile since I had a gt2056 apart. But if I remember correctly, I do believe the washer and spacer goes underneath the thrust plate (which is the round brass look shape with a chunk missing located in the center of your 2nd pic.
Washer goes first, spacer second, then thrust plate. The hat comes next with the brim (wide portion) on the thrust plate, and then the turbine backing plate.

I could be wrong, but I think that is correct.

What you describe seems to be on the right track.

I have it setup in reverse of what you described and the turbine doesn't fit behind the case very well and won't turn when it's all assembled before I tighten it down. What you are describing seems to provide more space for that thing to turn.

Can't wait to try it when I get home tonight...
