Trunk Striker Placement? Height? 1985 300D Trunk Not Closing Completely

I've installed a new key barrel on my 85 300D since the previous one had been drilled out by a different owner. With the barrel in, the lock mechanism works and all seems to be as expected with it.
The car was also missing the trunk stirker though, so i asked the key barrel seller if they had one on hand and he did so he included it with the barrel package along with a few shims!
But somehow thing aren't lining up in terms of height. The forward/backward placement was tricky itself but i have it so that the striker latches and doesn't open without the key barrel operation. I guess that's ok.
But the height of things is weird. No part of the trunk is reaching its full closure...
When i push down, the trunk lines up well with the body of the car. It's not bent at all. There is some minor damage to trim just under lock, but it's just the trim.
Is it possible that different strikers were different heights/sizes from year to year?
