Testing oil only tells you two things:

1) Is the oil worn out and needs changed.

2) Is the engine dissolving into the oil. ( parts are wearing and the material is mixing with the oil. )

This guy also needs to track where the car lives. Sub zero starts are way harder on an engine than 70* F + .

It can also tell you things like whether coolant is finding it's way into the sump, whether fuel is getting past the rings, and whether the filters are keeping out dust and contaminants. depending on what wear materials are present, it can identify the general area of the engine that's wearing. Unfortunately, it can also fuel endless uninformed and pointless discussions.

What you mention falls under item 2.

Also , if an engine has high silicon readings ( dist , sand ) at oil change 4 and a breached air filter is found, later oil samples won't pick up that the engine was damaged early on.

Oil samples are for long term machine health and an alert of impending doom. As an example, if lead levels spike on an engine that uses unleaded fuel and tin / lead bearings , this is an alert that a bearing is coming apart.

My understanding is that this detailed data is being used for jet engines and has been for a long time as part of the planes onboard systems .
Old car ,new data ,still old car kind of info but intersting.

Not quite, the diagnostics involved in a sample test require a centrifuge and a mass spectrometer. But this type of analysis is routinely done on jets, as well as other types of industrial equipment.

OBD sensors measure temperature and dielectric constant. The associated computer equipment may keep track of the rate of change. That gives a rough indication of oil condition and life expectancy, not a detailed chemical analysis.

I have used Blackstone for decades and firmly believe in this procedure. Sort of a blood test for vehicles. Things you don't want to see is oil or antifreeze and catching something like this early can save a lot of dough. Blackstone has a lot of statistics on engines/mileage that they compare your data with. There is quite a bit of information to be learned from the report, especially if you are just acquiring the vehicle. These reports are a good $28 investment.

The question would be, have you gotten a bad test back and what did you do to the engine / did the engine fail later on?

Been meaning to do this. It was SOP in the military, nice that Blackstone offers the service to the public for the price of a case of good brew.
