Another what would you do thread. 87 190d 2.5td

I have one of the rare 1987 190d2.5td's. the a/c is completely kaput (cost to repair is beyond what I am willing to shell out) so using it during the summer months is just no fun. So the car just gets parked and driven when I have the time (I might drive it 30 miles per week just to circulate the fluids).

Other than the ac and radio, everything works and it has no rust. I spent $3700 to have the transmission rebuilt a few years ago. I've had the car for about 10 years. I also just put 4 new Firestones on them this year so the car really needs nothing.

Insurance on the car is just $180 per year and maintenance is practically nil.

My daily driver is a 99 camry (with ac).

I am not emotionally attached to it so I would not mind selling it but it is a good backup car and a good fast diesel (0 to 60 is gas car-like) to drive for variety (since the acceleration characteristics of the cars are very different).

So what would be your opinion? keep or sell? it might be collectible enough to be on Hagerty's but I don't really care. I'm just not the type to fall in love with a car.

I don't want to just craigslist the car for many reasons but I suspect the car is probably worth just $2500. I don't need the money so I am not really motivated to sell it for so little money. It is fairly rare to have the big turbo diesel in such small body though.

decisions decisions.

pic of the car attached. I removed the rear wing since it seemed juvenile to have it there.

Yep, fix the A/C and keep it.
Drive the 99 Camry as your primary. It's a great car to wear down and is ultra reliable, cheap to maintain. Then when you need to have a little driving fun, take the 190 out on occasion.

Nice looking car! I'd keep it. Like everyone else says, fix the AC. I mean, it sounds like it rins strong and you already shelled out to have the tranny rebuilt. Might as well go whole hog now. This thing will be a classic any second now (but maybe I'm just partial to 80's cars).

Oh, and put that wing back on!

Ive been all over the map when it comes to ownership on the 190e and d models .The one that escapes me is your model .The agility through corners is amazing,I think the rear end on these wear designed off the racing circuit, you having the turbo and 5 spd which is ultra rare. One hint Ive found on usuable rims to fit your model is the r129s ,makes for the best cornering factory look you can find in a 16 inch rim .Youll search for a 1991 500sl at any yard ,most likely be wearing these shoes ,if it has a 5 spd grab it too .A 5 spd out of one of these is comprable to those in the cosworth models and are a rarity item in their self.
