Cool Land Rover 110 SuperTurbo Sleeper Project

Hi all, thought I'd join this forum as I'm a bit unsure how to approach this project.

I want to put an om606 with a manual gearbox into a Land Rover 110. I'd like to get up to 400hp and a six speed 'box would be a bonus.

Sorry for being such a noob, I've read up a bit on the STD forums and would need:

-om606 engine
-om603 mechanical pump (bigger elements by dieselmeken)
-unsure of gearbox/clutch

Here in the UK there is a guy who makes adaptor plates between the engine and R380/LT77 Land Rover gearboxes but I think 300+hp would shred them.

To anyone in the know, what would be the best combination to achieve durability in this chassis?

Thanks very much in advance, Fred

A lot of folks here have put 617 turbos into other chassis including me. For me the 606 is intimidating because of the electronic controls. I don't know about getting 400 hp from it, it seems like a tall order if durability is desired though. I have less than 400 in my cummins and the transmission I have in it (6 speed manual) is pretty enormous....way too big and heavy for your rover.

For that sort of power you might consider a small block chevy with a matching tranny of some sort.

..I also have a 427 Cobra replica with an aluminum chassis.

Thanks so much for replying

Here in the UK a small block chevy and associated transmission costs far more than in the US unfortunately! Petrol costs would be a major issue too.

Bit of a random video but it has been done

As you've seen from the STD page, it is doable and the engine should be pretty reliable. And that is probably going to be your best source of information as well.

As far as transmission, I'm not sure what's available in the UK. Ford transmissions seems to be the popular choice in 4x4 diesel swaps, cant remember which one off hand. Z something I think... If you have a divorced transfer case it can open up a lot of options.

Good luck on the swap and keep us posted!

Nice project

Just for what it's worth (not wanting you to feel unwelcome here), this forum is kinda more for fixing Mercedes cars, as others have said the STD forum would be better - more Brits there and people who've done similar swaps are there as well, don't think there's many here at all familiar with the original LRs. Many here aren't familiar with the 606 (and what they're capable of) as well
