Diesel G Wagon Lust

Lord help me, i've been lusting over diesel G wagons.

It started as nostalgia for my beloved om617. Then I saw some reviews and the spartan interior, modest fuel economy, and it's work first design sort of turned me off. I'm a princess after all.

Then I saw some of the 90s models when they started making them luxurious SUVs and now i've been bit. I see them all the time here in SoCal, but they're the gas guzzling v8 engines and loaded with modern gizmos.

Now that the 25 year rolling import extension has reached the 90s, i've seen some delicious examples appear over in Europe. That om606 looks like a good engine, modest power, great low end torque, and modest fuel economy for the world's boxiest automobile brick.

Someone slap some sense into me! There has to be some sort of horrible defect on these cars that make them terrifying to own.

Any experience or stories out there? I'd love to hear them.

Wagons for sale

There’s a company in Utah that sells all sorts of grey market G wagons, not just the wealthy soccer Mom versions we only get here in the states.
