Someone asked about door strike repair a few weeks ago.
|
Oh wow. Yeah, I just replaced two strikes. I had to drill them out. These would have saved me time and money. Oh well, I'm set for the foreseeable future.

I had no problem putting the new until on and no trouble with the screws. I'v read that if you mark around the base of the strike it's a lot easier to get everything line up to work but I just snatched the defective ones off and slapped the new ones back on. They've been on the car for about two or three years now without issue. Of course my car is a w126 so it might be tougher on another body. |
I wonder how the rubber will last compared to good used ones. I take them from rear doors of cars often. :)

It seems the w126 has a different design than the w123 original strikers. Are the w126 compatible with the w123?

No idea, I cannot even remember the year I last owned my '84 300D. Probably around 2002. W124 are different than the W126, if that helps. :D |
Four for 17 bucks and we wonder if they are as good as the $150/ea sold by the Benz dealers? They must be, right?
Buy eight sets and check on each strike once a year. Change them when they get brittle or at five year intervals. Being lopse with the math that's 40 years and you've saved yourself nearly 500 bucks. I'd might buy a couple dozen of those bolts with my savings. :) |
