Blinker stalk replacement - aftermarket or used?
My blinker stalk has quite a lot of jank in it. The slowest speed for the windshield wipers works maybe 1 out of every 40 or 50 tries. The right turn blinker only works if I hold the stalk in a certain way (I've already cleaned the hazard switch, which got the blinkers mostly working), the bright headlights (both push forward for on and pull back to flash) don't work at all... you get the picture.
Anyway, for my pickup I was able to find a new old stock blinker stalk. Not sure if Nissan just made a lot more parts or if the Benz ones aren't as common since they weren't made on this side of the pond at that time, but regardless I can't find a NOS blinker stalk for my 87 190D. Do you guys think I'm better off buying a used OEM part, or one of the new production aftermarket ones? I'm going to attempt to repair the blinker stalk I've got, but I'd like to have a spare on hand just in case.

I replaced mine (1983 300CD) with aftermarket. Works fine.

Well, I was hoping for some more input on this but oh well. I found an OEM one that the seller said came from a car with 59k on it. For $30 shipped I figured why not. It has a warranty (not a very long one, but it's enough to make sure it's not DOA) so might as well give it a shot. If this one doesn't work then I'll try one of the aftermarket ones.

I'll share a story, which may or may not be helpful. I had a bad cruise control stalk. So I bought a new one, cheapest I could find. It fit perfectly. But it didn't come with the electrical connector. I had to disassemble the old connector, remove the pins, and resolder to the new harness. Unfortunately, the wiring in the new harness didn't match the factory color codes. With half dozen wires in the bundle, it would have taken up to six factorial tries to get every wire at the right positiion. I never did get it working.
