Advice on restuffing sun visors
I have an 81 240d with the simple sun visors (just the mirror). The foad inside is breaking down and it looks floppy. The visor material is sealed on the edges, so i cant easily open and replace the foam.
What have you guys done to fill it. I was thinking of making small holes and using a expanding foam to fill the inside. If i fill it and then make sure to lay it on its side probably to have an even side, it should harden and look good. Another thought would be to make a little bigger hole 3/4 inch along the seam to the stick a straw in there to vacuum out all the foam dust. How could i reseal the edge seam? What do you think?

Found the option from this post to completely gut and redo the inside foam.

I'm in a similar position to you only worse. My drivers visor just flops down because the sprung steel clip that gives the mechanism it's tension has snapped. So I've removed the visor and disassembled it. There is a video on youtube, don't know if it's by the same guy as the link you posted that shows his repair of his 107 sunvisors. That's the method I'm likely to follow. But first I have to find a new spring clip. There's little chance of fashioning one from sheet metal so I'm going to have to try and find a spare visor to scavenge. Though if it comes to that I might as well just swap it for the old visor. I used a craft knife to slit open the visor along it's entire length to get the innards out. It'll require the vinyl or craft glue or whatever the stuff is that's mentioned in that link or the video to get it put back together properly.

Dig around on Porsche 914 sites, I recall years ago someone was doing the expanding foam repair.
The difficulties would be developing a good process parameters: Getting full fill , using the correct volume , maintaining shape. ( I'd put a hole on each end , foam until it comes out he other end and have the visor in a mold. ) |

Here's a thread on what I did to replace the "bag-of-foam" visors on my diesel SL; it's not the same for 123s, but it may provide some ideas for a solution using similar techniques - The $10 Fix for Old Disintegrated Visors - Mercedes-Benz Forum
And a variation on the theme - http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r-c107-sl-slc-class/2429737-107-sunvisor-mod.html
