warning! don't shop at http://www.mercedesautoworks.com/

I don't know where to post this, but don't shop here. I placed an order on June 5th, and never saw a thing, and they do not respond to any emails. It's billed through paypal as Green Diesel. I've made a paypal claim.

If you had used a credit card, you wouldn't be doing the paypal dance right now......

Well, I've been funding my restoration with funds from selling stuff on ebay, that money goes into my paypal, and then I use it to buy things...

And you've just learned why that may not be a great idea. Many folks have been screwed by Paypal over the years, I know some who've lost thousands. Paypal isn't a bank, so you get none of the usual consumer protections, and Paypal doesn't have to follow banking laws.

Paypal allows you to transfer the money to a real bank. I do that the moment the proceeds land from a sale. And use a real credit card for purchases.

Dude, I may have read it wrong (I doubt it though), but mercedesautoworks
and Mercedes Source are not the same.

While we are on the pay pal subject. E bay allow sellers to block buyers from making a purchase that don't have a pp account linked to their e bay account. I refuse to get a pp account for the " pp isn't a bank " reasons listed above.

Also, sellers can block buyers from using the "ask a question" function, leading to an endless loop of " I can't bid and can't contact you to lift the pp restriction as suggested by the E bay error screen. "

I've used paypal for 15 years now with not a single problem. 2 years ago, an offshore NBA streaming service that I paid approx $80 for suddenly went offline with no way to contact them. I called paypal and they advised me to open a claim. It took a month or so but they got my money back.

My experience is similar. Two or three times over many years had a problem with vendor or product. Opened claim, and issue was settled. On the other hand, once had issue using CC on-line and Mastercard wouldn't help.

We have probably just been lucky. Or maybe its just because I don't use PP that much.

Did you try phoning them?

(323) 325- 4255 (909) 762- 3948 (veggy oil?)

The Green Diesel must refer to the the veggy oil section http://www.mercedesautoworks.com/Veg-energy_home.htm

I would wait longer and try other things before flaming them. Could be a 1-man operation and didn't get your e-mail, family emergency, or such. There are so few people selling and making stuff for these cars that we don't want to treat them like a Walmart. What did you buy and what cost?

I've been using paypal as both buyer and seller since it began. Although they aren't covered by banking regs, I find they come up with fair resolutions given time.

I'm not sure what sort of alternative payment you would use, as both CC online transactions and personal checks have much greater fraud risk.

This has been my experience too. I've had just as much bad luck with CC company NOT honoring protections as paypal. I had a shyster rental car company in South Africa give me a car with broken leaf springs and a myriad of other defects. Do you think AMEX did a thing? Nope.
