85 300D turbo diesel - trans model? tweaking?

So I recently obtained this long neglected (6 years in the weeds) 300D turbo diesel (automatic).

I put a battery in it, and it fired right up! I drove it around the block, and everything seems basically working with the drivetrain. It is absolutely filthy, so I'm in the process of cleaning interior and exterior.

I'm ordering supplies for it, and when picking a trans filter, it mentions different trans models. Is it safe to assume I have a 722.3? The car was sold in New York state originally.

Once I change fluids and filters and do some interior work, I'll be addressing the various gizmos under the hood that are new, compared to my 83 240D.

Without turning it into a polluting beast, what if anything is commonly done to these (like removing things) to improve performance? Also, I wonder how I can tell if the turbo is working?

Valve adjustment when warmed up.
Drive it like you stole it (aka Italian tuneup) for 500 miles or so.
Re-adjust valves.
Drive it like you stole it at least once a week thereafter.

StarTron diesel fuel tank cleaner (marine supply store) to clean out deposits in tank, IP, and fuel lines.

Adjust the ALDA to increase fuel delivery.
(Some remove the ALDA altogether...I haven't, yet)

Clean/replace the EGR valve and clean out the intake manifold.
(Some bypass or delete the EGR valve altogether...I've bypassed the EGR on my 83 300SD, the 78 300SD never had an EGR valve)

Checking the turbo: disconnect the boost sense line from the switchover valve and hook up pressure gauge (or balloon).
Be careful the plastic boost sense line is brittle ( if original).

Rev the engine and you should get a pressure readng on the gauge (or see the balloon inflate).

If no boost pressure is detected, remove and clean out the banjo bolt of the back of the intake manifold.
The soot from the exhaust gases that the EGR valve introduces into the intake manifold eventually clog the boost sense line and you lose the ability to benefit from the turbo.

Since it hasn't been said yet - CHANGE THE OIL AND FILTER!!! Be prepared for some serious nastiness if it hadn't been running at all in that period (my SDL sat for 10 years and had gelled oil in the oil filter housing).

1985 should be a 722.3 transmission unless someone inexplicably swapped in an earlier one for some reason.
