W210 Bad Fuel Sender?
I was driving one of my E300s the other day and I put a full tank in it. The car was filled to the brim. The gauge bounces around between a full tank, 3/4 of a tank and goes up and down. Anyone had this problem? Is the level sender in the top of the tank like the w124s? I was going to take it out and see if it needed to be cleaned or was dirty.

Iirc it is in top of tank. I'd check wiring including ground connection.

It's behind the trunk partition panel on the back side of the tank at the top. Easy to access and remove. It is just a fraction of a turn to release and it's high up so unless your tank is super full it should not leak.
Once you get it out you will see it is a variable resistor arrangement with a couple pads that slide across two carbon tracks. The slider puts a short across the two tracks so the connections can both be at the same end. Mine is kind of flaky at full tank but settles down once it's below 3/4. I need to replace mine, it's on the nice to have but not broken yet list.
