"I love these old Mercedes"....about an 05???

05 CDI for sale near me, thought I'd take a look as it was on my way home. As the dealer and I were chatting, he actually said, about a car that rolled off the line in 2004, "I love these old Mercedes." A very different perspective than most on this board....

If anyone's interested, car is in nice shape. My mechanic, who's just across the street from the dealer, gave it a C service before it went up for sale.

Did he also say "they don't make 'em like that anymore"

My idea of old would probably be made in the 50's

Funny what some folks perceive as "old". My idea of old is a metal dashboard. If you have a plastic dashboard, it's a modern car.

With the way technology changes in my world, a 2012 MB qualifies as old..........

It's all perspective. 2005 is new for this board, in the real world that car is what, 4-5 body styles old? And at least 3 engines and 2-3 transmissions back.

My CDI is an 06, so yeah, 05 is old.

POV I suppose. However, pretty happy with my '98 w210 (om606.952) and I never thought of her as "old". Heck, she just turned 440k so just a teenager right!

Yea, an 05 Mercedes....I consider new or more precisely...technologically modern...because it has all of the tech stuff that people seem to not be able to live without nowadays.

Any car that has to be plugged up with a code reader is new(ish) to me.
Any car that is completely dependent on the going through the error codes to fix it, are "too new" for me.
There are cars where you can get a battery warning light. ...You then put a new battery in....and you CANNOT turn on the car until that code is cleared out. And if you don't have a computer code scanner to erase that code after fixing the issue you are basically SCREWED..No...matter of fact I'm pretty sure ONLY the dealer can erase the codes...It's the brand spanking new BMWs that do this crap.

Essentially you're FORCED to go to the dealer instead of doing your own work.

What cracks me up is seeing piece of junk 1990s minivans driving around with historic vehicle plates.

Motor Vehicle Division really needs an better validation for what qualifies for a Historic Vehicle tag! I see those on the most clapped out vehicles ever, but rarely see that tag on a car in nice condition. It's sad really.
