radio gremlim w211

my 2006 cdi seems to have a radio gremlin. No control over radio symptoms are : goes off and comes back on after several seconds, no control over volume or station selection when it is playing. command display is on screen when the radio is playing and when the radio goes off the screen is black. Is this a radio problem or is there some control or setting or something causing this to occur. Car has 65k mi I detect no other descrepancies. any help appreciated
TIA

I would try a soft reset of the command system by removing fuses #26 and #28. They are in the fuse box on driver side dash (flush with door opening). Then remove fuse #6 from the trunk. Remove key from ignition and let set for 15 minutes. Replace all three fuses and turn car on an allow unit to reset.

If that does not cure the problem its probably going to be your AGW (audio gateway). You will need Star Diagnostics C3, C4 to test so that's a dealer/Indy item.

Your problem is not uncommon with the 211. If it does become the AGW you might want to know that a refurbished gateway is available from MB. A new gateway cost may take your breath away.

It may be something as simple as a software update but you'll need SDS to check..........

Yes, that is going to be the quickest road to recovery. Like stated above it may be as simple as an update.
