New to me 2005 CDI
After some searching, I finally picked up a 2005 CDI. I was looking throughout numerous states with numerous alerts set up. This one happened to bypass the alert and was found with a manual search on CL. It was 5 miles from me.
Specs-
It isn't perfect (purchase price reflected that). It needs $500-1000 worth of small things/PM etc, nothing a DIYer like myself cannot handle. I have a couple of questions: 1- Unsure if the SBC recall was done, will check with the dealer. However, there is a record with a new Pressure Reservoir (the accumulator), part # 000-430-26-94. Is this the fail part for the SBC? It was done in May 2015 at a cost of $1500 at the dealer 2- any recommendations on a scan tool? I have a scangauge but want something more to read MB specific codes, check the brake counts , etc I am sure I will have more questions moving forward. |

Icarsoft MBII can can pull codes, reset and display live data from all the computers in the car. It can turn off SBC for brake work but it won't show you a cycle count. For something you can keep in the glovebox its pretty nice.

The iCarsoft MBII is great for something to throw in your trunk. It does A LOT. That's what I got when I first got my CDI. It will set you back about $150. But there really is no substitute for an Xentry system. $500 or so. Ideally get both. It's hard to imagine anyone would want to keep an Xentry in their trunk.

Thanks, will take a look. Question though- Why not get an Autel DS808/DS908 (or something similar?) My thinking is, if I am going to spend $650 on a scanner, I rather spend another 150-200 more and get something that will cover a lot of vehicles including the ones in my herd. I do not know what the limitations of these are yet but if I can find one that can do it all for the MB side as well as just about any other vehicle, I'd rather go that route as it's more versatile.
Also, the spare is gone, can someone tell me the backspacing/tire size so I can get one? |

I was looking at the Autel. My impression is that Xentry does some things that the Autel won't....but I'm not sure of the details. For example, I wonder if the Autel could do the SBC actuation count.

What do you mean by "SBC recall?" As far as I know all MB did was extent the warranty of certain parts of the system to ten years. At this point, all of our cars are older than ten years so we're all on our own for SBC repairs.

I may have misread but I thought there was an updated SBC pump as the originals had a design flaw.

An Autel MaxiDas 708 will do everything you need with the 05/06 cars.

What oil weight is recommended? The manual doesn't really give a clear answer which is ridiculous. It seems like folks use one of the two below.

One more question- regarding oil filters, is there a consensus of which to use? Mann, Mahle, other?
