Glow Plug Testing Question

I have the original six glow plugs from the CDI which were removed by the PO in good working condition (he decided to replace them just for the heck of it). I tested them with a multimeter and all were good. I then thought I would hook them up to 12v to see them glow. I did this with two of them. They both glowed and then later would not and now they fail the resistance test. So I guess I burned them both out.

What did I do wrong?

I have read CDI glow plugs run on 5 V. I guess you missed that? 12 V will burn them out!

At least you didn't keep going and burn all six out.
