1978 300CD//Spindle
Good day everyone-
Changing front bearings out this morning and the condition of the spindle surprised me. Severely worn bearings the cause? Thinking I need to replace the spindle now....opposite side spindle looks fine, but do they need to be replaced in tandem, or not? Thanks, Lance-

I doubt worn bearings would cause that, I'd suspect someone didn't seat the bearings properly and never had the nut torqued properly. If the other one is ok, there's no reason to replace it. That one needs replacement though for sure.

It looks to me like the treaded end of the spindle broke off and someone welded on another or reattached the broken off one.
You can replace the spindles individually but the later ones are different so you need to get one from around the same year. There is likely a part number some where on the spindle.

Don't need to replace both spindles but I definitely would replace that one. Looks as though a wheel bearing had seized and they had to hack it off.
