autel 8d802 and benz 38 connector
Looking at scan tools that will talk to the 38 pin connector under the hood of my w210. Has anyone used the combo above? I see to different autelmd802 sold on amazon so i don't know if that benz 38 connector works on both?

I don't know about this specific tester. Be aware there are 38 pin car side to OBD 2 tester side adapters that will allow reading of the engine but nothing else. At least on the 97 era cars, the OBD connector is engine only. ( Note, I'm pretty sure the trans codes make their way to the OBD connector by way of the engine computer but you can clear them. )

I have seen the 16 pin to 38 cords but read they are hit and miss. The product I'm looking at is called a benz 38 connector. Goes 38 pin to a box, then serial to connect to the autel. Says you can cycle abs and see trans codes. 99 e300 is throwing a hard code after swapping the engine. Drives and shorts fine but want to know what it is for.

I've got an Autel MaxiDas 708 and the only way it will talk to my 98 E300 is via the underhood, 38 pin connector and yes it will read everything in the car. It does not communicate via the OBD port on this application.

are you using the benz 38 brand connector or just a generic 16 to 38 cord?

I'm using the 38 pin connector that came with the Autel unit that says BENZ on it.

The maxidas will require a muxer to read/write the 38 pin communication connector in the fuse box.
It usually comes with it.
