99 E300TD no fuel to injection pump

Hey everyone, got a 99 E300TD, 309k miles, I'm getting no fuel to the IP. New fuel lines, new fuel pump, new shut off valve.

I'm noticing with the starter running, I can see fuel running through the lines but not drawing from the main fuel supply line. When I take that line loose from the fuel heater on the head, there's fuel to the very top of it. With a hand vacuum pump, I can pull fuel from the tank fairly easy.

If I disconnect the line from the pre-filter to the SOV, fuel flows freely through the pre-filter and housing - so no blockage there.

I disconnected the SOV and when I turn on the key, I hear and feel it click and a little bit of fuel spurts out of the SOV toward the IP- but no additional fuel comes out when I engage the starter.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated! - Tim

there is an o-ring about the size of a quarter that seals the bottom of the pre-filter to the housing. Was it reinstalled?

You have to buy the o-ring as a separate part number....doesn't matter how tight the pre-filter sits......it wont run w/o that o-ring installed.......

I double checked and yes the O-ring is in place, but also might add was having the issue before I replaced the pre-filter and all the lines, etc. I greatly appreciate your input - I can definitely see where that could have been it - Tim

If you disconnect the output line from the lift pump, and have a helper crank the engine, does fuel come out?

Use the hand vacuum to pull on the return line.
Pull at the 8mm connection (smaller line) where it joins the main steel line at the bulkhead under windscreen.
Block off the end of the metal line if tank is full otherwise it will leak fuel out.
I have used a sealey engine oil pump to prime my system on my 97 e300td and it will show up any air ingress in the lines, ignition on to open stop solenoid.

Yes, if I disconnect the output line from the pump, fuel comes out. But it has air in it also. But if I hook direct line from a fuel bottle to the fuel input - all the air will go out almost immediately through the entire system, but still no fuel out of the shut off valve. Thanks for responding! - Tim

UPDATE - I got the engine running via by-passing the shut off valve. I know when I first turn the key on - the SOV opens...but I guess it closes immediately after that all shuts all the fuel off again. It seems like whatever controls that SOV is the problem... I have a snap-on diagnostic tool and when I read the computer it doesn't give me any faults except for the MAF, which is disconnected....I see something on there that says "authorized to start" so I don't think it's the computer.....appreciate the help! - Tim

It's also not unlikely that the shut off valve went bad too.

This thread mentions pin 3 from ecu powering shut off valve, I agree with jake12tech in that solenoid is probably faulty.

the K40 relay powers the SOV.

You already have a new SOV.
