Fuel Filter Rating

Hello All,

I just found this site & I think it's Great!! I'll probably be bothering you with a bunch of questions soon! I have an 82 240D that I'm running biodiesel in & love it.
Anyhow, my question is what is the micron rating of the secondary fuel filter? I'm looking to replace it with a Racor heated filter for cold weather & effiency(sp?). The Racor comes in a 10 or 2 micron rating & I'm just wondering which one I should use.

Thanks!

Without a fuel heater the 10 micron is used for winter in case the fuel begins to gell or in areas that have really bad fuel (marina, for example). In the bad fuel case most people use a dual filter system with a 10 and a 2. Check with Racor to see if the heater also heats the filter element (I've never serviced a Racor with a heater). Up here where it gets cold we just mix #1/#2 or straight #1 below 10F. I have not been a fan of the electric fuel heaters as they give a false sense of security, in my opinion. You'd have to heat the lines from the tanks, the lines between filters, ....

edit: Saw you use bio, a fuel where I have no experience. Bear, a fellow from England seems to have good experiences with bio. Maybe try searching under his name.
