How do I make an audio recording of a diesel engine running?

I'm getting a weird "tick tick tick" sound on start up of the 1984 300DT. Strangely, after the car warms up, the "tick tick tick" isn't heard.......

Can I use a cam corder to make an audio/video recording of the engine running so I can post it here?

If you can upload a vid to Youtube that's an easy way to do it. It's easy on my iPhone, with a camcorder there are likely more hoops to jump through, but if you can get the vid in your computer, you should be able to get a Youtube spot for it.

Any audio recording device should suffice. One that records natively in a digital format makes it easier to share via computer. Position the microphone near the source of the sound, and avoid a breezy day as the wind will create loud static in the recording.

Someone told me a straightpiped 300SDL isn't that loud.

We'll I guess open mid pipe is louder than out the back.

I need to bolt it back on because it's pretty loud, but not horrid. The turbo really does quiet things down compared to NA engines.

Don't forget to grease the screw and threads on the spring compressor.

Here's some of my recent work. The production values need some attention. As I was filming at night, lights could have been better. This was via iPhone uploaded with the app:

OK, I have a Samsung Galaxy Sky (model SM- S320VL) phone that has no SD card. I recorded video/audio this morning of the car. However, when I downloaded to my PC, the folders showed up for photos and video but there were no files shown. I checked the google play store and it shows an app for USB mass storage. I downloaded several of the apps but was unable to get any of the apps to enable USB mass storage.

I'm thinking I need to install a micro SD card (32 or 64 mb) into the phone before I can install a USB mass storage app. Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.

Looking at the specs for the Sky, you should have plenty of storage onboard without adding an SD card, depending on the length of video and quality level you intend to upload, of course.

If you're having trouble transferring the video from your phone to your computer, have you tried using the YouTube app to upload directly from your phone? Obviously make sure you're on wifi when you do this, unless you have a robust data package.

I finally figured out how to do it; the video is in the subfolder "camera" under folder "DIMM". The video I took this morning sucks, so I am going to take another one in the morning and upload it to the forum. These phones can be a trip to figure out........
