Sorry about wandering a little off topic, but they are related to kissing bugs, which transmit Chagas disease:

That's cool, thanks for sharing! I love all the different insects we have here in the south, except maybe the Palmetto bugs. A praying mantis laid eggs on our mailbox earlier this fall, and I've seen a rhinoceros beetle in VA before. Walking sticks show up occasionally. Circada carcasses are pretty common around our house.

Agreed...

Tons of bugs down here.

I mostly see black widows under cars... scary.

I garden occasionally, and bugs abound out there... I’ve seen kissing bugs before, but never that wheelthing! Lots of different beetles. Huge antlers wielding things show up here and there... I’ve always called them stag beetles.... huge creatures... about 1.5 to 2.5 inches long... and of course the garden or writing spiders... also huge.
Often, wolf spiders grow about 2inches across here... then there are the moths... also huge.

Worst is the mayfly swarms... a month of daily car cleanings to mitigate the smears...

That has to be about the creepiest bug I have ever seen! Nightmare fuel, for sure. Here in Arizona, we get lots of black widows. And scorpions... this little guy was crawling on my face when I was on my back under my car.

Is that ATF all over the ground? I sure hope not!

American oil beetle. If you ever see one of these, don't handle it with bare hands. It secretes an oil that's similar to hot pepper oil, and will burn your skin.
