SRS Light Comes On When Driver’s Door Is Opened

W126 1987 300SDL

I’ve also noticed that the cigar lighter powers up when the driver’s door is opened.

I searched through pages of SRS related material in the archives, but nothing matched my issue.

While I’m at it, the glove box light and the radio do not work but everything else on that fuse (#18) works. The glove box light bulb is good.

The trunk light and rear dome lights do not work but everything else on that fuse (#15) works. The bulbs are good.

Probably a ground issue but if its wired like my 90 w124 was then the door switches let the windows have power when either front door is open and there is no key in the ignition.

Mr Oilslick,

If so equipped, try removing the power seat diode in the fuse center. Location G, Just rearward of f1, 2 pole, maybe grey or black. If this diode shorts, cir 15r becomes live when the door is opened and may cause your problem.

Just so happens that I have a complete wiring harness from an ‘86 SDL that came with an OM603 engine and transmission I bought last year. The power seat diode was still in the fuse box. I swapped it out with the one in my ‘87 SDL fuse box and whaddya know, problem solved! Thanks Paulwho! Much thanks!!!
