93 300d OM602 No Start
Hey guys, just changed my injection pump. Starter cranks away, but engine not even close to starting. Both fuel filters are full, I see plenty of fuel in through the clear lines, no bubbles. I bled the air through the injector hardlines. Cranking at WOT, gas cap off, still nothing.
Checked my glow plugs with a multimeter individually, and through the relay, seem fine. Anyone have any ideas  |
How long do you crank for and how many times did you crank. Takes mine 5 cranks each about 12 seconds before it would fire when removing the hard lines.
|
Been cranking every few minutes for about 20 seconds max. Been letting the battery charge. Are your cranks consecutive, or some time in between?
|
I usually wait 10 minutes between cranks. Have you loosened the hard lines at the injector to wait until fuel comes out? I disconnect glow pluds until I confirm fuel is going to injectors.

So I have the intake off, and there is visible vapors coming out of the turbo, like some partial combustion is happening. So that leaves me somewhat optimistic I’m on the right track.
I’m wondering if I over fueled it? |
It would still start if you "over fueled" it unless it had so much fuel that it hydrolocked. Just a guess but your timing could be off, either injecting on the wrong stroke (although oddly enough people report the engine still barely runs like that) or just too advanced/retarded on the correct stroke.

It isn't a carbed engine you can't flood it. Crack one each injector line at a time at the pump and crank it until there's fuel coming without anymore air bubbles.
Crank 30 seconds at a time and let the starter cool for 3 minutes. Keep touching it periodically to make sure it isn't hot. You will get it running eventually. If you don't, you're getting air in somewhere from a loose connection possibly. Don't disconnect the glow plugs you need all the assistance you can to start. There's no point in doing that, just going to make things harder. also, how did you take off the injection pump? did You use the locking tool? what was the position of the timing tang when you installed the pump ane what stroke was the motor on? |
'98 e300. I have changed my plastic fuel lines and fuel filters twice and filled the fuel filters with diesel when installed; one of the times I also changed the shut off valve. Each time I've cranked the starter for 60 to 70 seconds in periods of 20 second crankings to start the car. I've waited for ten minutes or so between each 20 second cranking. This has worked well both times.

Thanks everyone. Yes, I bled the air from the injector hard line already. Yes, I locked the tang before I installed the pump, but now I will double check IP timing.
I keep getting more and more vapor each try, I've been not holding down the pedal, thinking I was fueling too much before. |
Stop leaver up?

P.s., checked my IP timing and it was way off, somehow. I locked it and will re install tomorrow. Hopefully that is the problem, but I will report back
|
That can cause the issue you are having.
