Cruise amp question.

I have the amplifiers out of 85 380SE and the 1984 300SD. I put the diesel engine and transmission in the gas body and left the 380's differential. I'm using the gasser speedometer so I can get accurate mileage and speed readings.

Which one will work right with this setup?

Good question ~

? Are the part #'s different between the two ? .

Who sells good quality rebuilt C.C. amps ? my '82 240D's has crapped out .

TIA,

The part numbers are different. The units mount the same and have the same number of pin connectors but the boards inside are much different.

JamesDean is the cruise control guy here. He's well versed in repairs and you can reach him with a PM or try his email address which is noted in the following thread.

You can always try a 190E cruise amp. It works with 300SDL and 87 300D based on my experience. They are easy to remove from junk 190E, behind the passenger carpet.

That's an option if neither of these work.

Either of the three choices seem like a shot in the dark right now. I suppose I may have to finish this project and leave a few trim pieces out until I can do a road test to see which works. I think I'll hold off on buying another amp until I'm satisfied neither of the two I have work.

I wonderd if the a VDO cruise control works off a speedometer signal so I checked the FSM and found this drawing.

It appears the CC system gets it's signal from the speedometer so I'm trying the one which mates the gas speedo which mates the differential.

If anyone knows I'm doing this wrong let me know, please

The amp goes in then the dash then the sunroof gets rebuilt. After that the remainder of the interior trim. Then the seats. I have to change the spring bases of the front seats, clean and lube the tracks and spray a few coats of SEM Surecoat to bring the covers to the exact color as the rest of the trim I've painted.

The goal is to have this done before the weather gets hot but if I don't make it that won't be the first time I've missed a goal.
