N/A OM617 injection pump question
Thanks in advance for any input.
I was looking at my injection pump on my N/A OM617 and I noticed a bolt with "OIL" under it, on top of the pump (as seen on attached pic) . Does this pump take oil? If so what kind and how much? I thought OM617's injection pump uses fuel as lubricant. Also in the pic on a side note. There is a dial there that can be turned. I am assuming this is for altitude. The numbers are 0, 4000, 8000, and 12,000. I live in FL 15ft above sea level so i put it on 0. When I first got the car it was up around 12,000 and the power was REALLY bad, super slow/sluggish. I put it on 0 and power was up 3 fold. Am I correct in thinking that is some sort of altitude compensator? |

What year model is this? The 70s 616's had an injection pump that required its own supply of oil, so if this is an early 617, it seems likely that you may need to do an oil change! The knob is exactly as you suspect, it's an altitude compensator. Later models had a pressure capsule (ADA) to do the adjustment automatically.

If this is a 1976 300D (w115) there should be an "oil line" near the front of the IP. It is made of the same material as the clear plastic fuel lines but appears black because it is full of oil. The bolt is used to fill the IP with oil when you reinstall it after you removed it to have it calibrated or repaired.

Diseasel, the car is a 74 but was originally a 240d but I bought it with a om617 swapped into it. Therefore I don't know what year the motor is.
Maclaveau, where would that clear plastic line run to? Towards the front or the back. I did not see any lines that lead to the motor, looking from the top at least, all were fuel lines. We're there om617s with injection pumps that had their own oil supply? |

Yours is a bog standard MW pump. OM617s never had injection pumps that had their own oil reservoir. As said above that port would be to splosh a bit in before you start the car. You're missing the ADA though...

The line goes forward and is roughly 12 inches long. Page 14 of this url:
