722.6 - is converter correctly installed?

Doing a transmission swap, replacing a 722.4 with a 722.6 on an om606.910. But the 722.6 it will not fit, the converter hits the flex plate.

Is the converter correctly installed? Looks like it protrudes quite a bit...

The TC isn’t properly engaged in the front pump or it’s the wrong TC.

When installing the TC, be sure to support it by the pilot and rotate the TC while jiggling it in and out.

The TC has 3 points of engagement. The input shaft , stator support and pump. The pump is usually the last thing to stick since it will rotate even if the converter hub is just touching it.

As a quick check, measure from your engine to the flex plate then measure from trans to converter face. A properly installed TC ( on most brand of trans ) will have 8 mm or so clearance before it hits the flex plate.

Was the trans rebuilt? If so it's possible it isn't splined correctly. aka clutches or gears.

Don't know if this will help, but:

In 1985 Cali TC is not interchangeable with a Fed on the 300D.

In 1985 the TC has a 2200 RPM stall speed as opposed to the 1700 or so of previous years. This makes off the line performance noticeable better.
