Water on passenger side floorboards, hole in back
I have an 84 300d that is in pretty great condition, but after taking it to the car wash today, I notice that the floormats on the passenger side were soaked.
I pulled up the carpet, and found out that the hole on the rear passenger side that is used to blown in that rust prevention stuff during manufacturing has lost the flexible sealant that normally covers it. I am wondering if anyone knows of a good size plug or replacement material, so that I don't have water finding its way into my floor again. |

If you get the part number it might be available from the dealer..

I'd suspect a clogged sunroof drain. There should be one in each corner of the roof, but I'm not sure how to find them in a 123. When they clog, water follows down the A and/or C pillars to the floor.

Thanks for the replies. I'm mostly just asking how to plug the hole that's in my rear floorboard.

You probably have something else happening. The 123 bodies have two serious leak points that come with age. Three actually. The first two are the wells where the hood springs are enclosed. They have drain holes, but if they are not cleaned of leaves and trash regularly, they rust out and the water drains through the rust holes into the front floors.
The second place is the battery box. It rusts through from the acid and the water runs straight to the passenger side floor. If the car is sitting level or with the front end a bit higher than the rear, the water runs to the rear floor. These are almost universal problems with 123 Benz's. Richard |

Thanks. I've read about these issues, but my current issue is that I have a hole in the floor of my rear passenger side that allows me to see the road under the car. The hole is one of the manufactured ones that is normally sealed at the factory with a rubber like sealant that coats the underbody. There is a hole on the driver side rear as well, but the seal in the is still currently intact. |

I am wondering why a car wash would blow water into your car through a hole in the floor pan. All of the car washes I have used shoot water at the sides and top of a car, not up at the underside.

The car wash I go to has an underbody sprayer to clean salt and such off in the winter.

Not something I would be running to the dealer for. Many things would work. I have a roll of sticky roof membrane I used on my tile roof hips, but you don't want to buy a full roll (~$20). I think some auto parts have plastic body plugs in the Dorman HELP! bubble packs.
