1984 300TD project
Haven’t logged in on here since 2016 when I sold my W124 grey market car. I now own 3 W123 on617 turbo cars. Main one I’ve been tinkering with has been my 1984 300TD with 268k on the clock. Scored the wagon on eBay for $360. Some rust holes on the hood, a couple spots behind the rear wheel wells, but the underside is about as pristine as a well used W123 could be. Was missing the injection pump, oil filter housing, and various other piddly parts. Happy to say I’ve gotten it running and driving after reassembling what was missing and doing a brake job on it. Still need to address water leaking into the cab, rough idle, goofy wiring problems, missing radio/dash pieces in that area, and issues with sediment in the fuel tank clogging prefilters. Currently waiting on a timing chain to arrive. Adjusted valves, diesel purged, changed filters, blah blah blah. Still idles a bit rough. Timing chain was stretched a bit, guessing this is about all that’s left to try to remedy timing/idle issues. Going to pull the tank strainer and clean it once I track down the hex socket I need, as well as clean the tank out. Also have zero vacuum which I think is adversely affecting transmission performance, I’ll address that at some point as well. Overall pretty happy with it, was wondering if I was in over my head there for a little bit. Will upload pictures of the project at some point, can’t seem to figure it out on mobile desktop view.
