123 A/C Suction Line

I need to replace the suction line on my 1983 300TD, the piece that goes across the top of the engine front and has the suction service port on the left hand fitting. The MB fiche show the same part number( A 000 130 07 57) for both a 300D and 300TD. Four Seasons makes a replacement, part #55567, but the part information says that it works on the 300D but not the TD.

Is there a difference in routing between the D and TD? Maybe due to the SLS hose routing? How can MB have one part number that works on both but not Four Seasons?

Any ideas?

Peter

I'd be surprised if there is any difference.

I always thought it was bad design to have that placed across the top of the engine ..
If you take your old one to a hydraulic shop.. and many regular auto parts houses can do it now... they should be able to replicate that one.. but I would sure do it long enough to not lay on the top of the engine if I was redoing mine..
I had a leak in that hose on my 81 wagon.. I think at the time it was $150.. so with all the other worn out stuff I could not afford to fix the AC... and I had no reliable AC shops around here either... That is when I started my quest to be able to do all my own AC stuff...

I know the 1985 CA 300D suction assembly differs from other 82-85 300D, due to the different air cleaner. Re 300TD, peruse photos on Google Images. I replaced the rubber on my 1984 & 85 300D's. For the suction, I used "reduced barrier" hose, -12 (5/8"ID) I recall (ebay). A hacksaw and pliers let you cut & peel the factory ferrules (Coll-O-Crimp type) to re-use. I have a MasterCool ferrule crimper and -10 regular ferrules fit on the reduced size hose. Otherwise, use Oeticker stepless ear clamps for a factory look (ebay). You can crimp w/ cheap "nail puller" pliers. Even screw hose clamps would work, and were used on common 1960-70's AC retrofits, but why look ugly. Of course mark the fitting clocking before you crimp.

To close the loop, I ordered the Four Seasons suction line 55567 (Note, PP does not carry this part in any form) and it fit perfectly on my 1983 300TD even though the supplier data says that it does not fit the TD. About $50 available from a number of suppliers, made in China.
