Om606 w124 5 speed manual swap

Hello everyone, Im a new registered member to the site although I have been on here in the past browsing the threads. Anyway I have a few questions regarding a manual swap in my 1995 e300 D. I know these questions have been beat up all over the internet before however I have not come across my specific questions. I recently acquired a mercedes 5 speed manual transmission from a friend out of a 1986 300e gasser. I just wanted to know if this transmission is compatable with my 95 with the om606 in it? The bolt patterns look the same 8 bolts I know the crossmembers is different as well as the spacing on the front half of the driveshaft.
I have another om606 from a 95 sitting on my trailer with the automatic trans still coupled to it and I was going to do the fitment on this first by marrying the manual and seeing how that goes. Im not really in a rush to do the swap however the automatic in my 95 has acted up in the past not suprising since it has 330000 on it and I am the 2nd owner. Does anyone have any advise or answers regarding this type of swap? By the way I have installed a 240d manual in my 85 300d after the automatic went and have installed a non turbo om617 in my 88 jeep wrangler coupled with an AX15. Thank you any help is appreciated.

Thank you for the reply. I have all associated parts excludung the actual shift tower lever for the linkage. Which he is looking for in his garage however do you know if a 4 speed shift lever would work in lieu of the 5 speed lever? They both have 3 rods and the trans looks just like the later 240d manual. I guess a 190 5 speed hand lever could work as well. Also would you happen to know if the manual flywheel is going to be the right one? I have a pic of it but dont know how to post it here.

No I don't think a 4spd shifter will work with it. It's a completely different setup. There were 2 different shifters used with this transmission. The early ones had reverse behind 5th gear, the later ones had reverse next to 2nd.

Yes the flywheel will fit just fine. The diesels got their RPM signal off the starter ring gear so pretty much any w124/w201 flywheel will work. The 86 trans had a single mass flywheel

Oh ok I dont lnow the difference between a single or double mass flywheel by looking at them. So would the current flywheel installed on the 606 motor not have ro be swapped for the one that came with the 5 speed? Just asking because when I did my 4 speed install on my 85 300d i used the flywheel that was attached to the motor also when I did my 617 swap into my wrangler that used the Jeep flywheel and starter I sent out the flywheel to be balanced before I coupled the motor and trans together. Again thank you for sharing your knowledge with me.

The 95 has an automatic (I assume) so it has a flex plate, not a flywheel. You remove the flex plate and install the flywheel.

Dual mass flywheel came after 89 I think. They are physically larger and heavier. Your 86 trans will only work with a single mass.

This is the dual mass from a 92 190e that went into my 87 300d

I did but i cant seem to open it. I tried to upload some of the flywheel pics i had i think only 1 uploaded to my album. Btw at sone point I will b doing the 4 speed manual swap to my 300 td I stripped a smacked 240 last year and have all the parts waiting for me to get some free time. That trans was from an 82 and looks more like the 5 speed with the 2 trans shift levers facing in the opposite direction. The one i dropped into the 85 was an earlier one from a 240 I believe.
