AC rebuild checklist/order of operation
Now that my AC is flushed, new expansion valve and orings installed, old compressor and drier removed, I'm ready to put things back together. Here is my plan, tell me if I'm wrong. I'm going to go with r12, but I'm testing pressure with r134 and may convert to r134 at some point (and definitely if I lose y r12 supply).
1. Open up the plate that was over the ports on new compressor when shipped, inspect Orings make sure they are correct type, nylog. This is a reman heavy r4, and I believe it is Oring type - not sealing washers. 2. Add in correct ounces of Ester oil with UV dye into suction port. 3. rotate clutch/compressor 10 times to circulate oil inside. 4. install compressor on car and hook up hoses/manifold. 5. Add in correct ounces of Ester oil into drier. 6. install pressure and temp switches on drier. 7. install drier in car, nylog orings and hookup hoses and switch wiring. 8. vacuum system and hold vacuum for at least 30 min (?) 9. add a couple cans of r134, monitor pressure overnight, check for leaks 10. recover r134, vacuum system again. 11. add about 2.6 pounds of r12. I will also be monitoring gauges/ambient temp and referencing my Haynes AC manual as best I can. Am I missing anything? Question 1: What is the total amount of Ester oil I'm putting into this system? How can I split it between compressor and drier? I cannot seem to find a consistent straight answer on this. Question 2: When I add 134 refrigerant for the pressure test phase - am I running the engine and max AC setting while I add the cans via the manifold gauge? Or am I just putting some r134 in the low side port while the car is off? Question 3: When I put in r12, after system is vacuumed again, am I running the engine and max AC setting? (same question as above). Thanks!

Read up on Ester oil. I recall it has some drawbacks. I have a bottle I never used, and probably won't. Read up on PAO 68 oil by Hella.
