Did you ever figure out if this version will fit in a W123 chassis?

My preliminary measurements say yes. However, I won't know 100% until I make the prototype. My 240 is awaiting the prototype for testing. I thought I would have the parts this week from laser cutting, but the guy was finishing up a big job. I hope to get started next week...Rich

We have another W123 that needs A/C so I'm in for a V2 bracket providing it will work in a W123

Can't really say for sure. I have not heard from the laser cutter about the parts for my prototype. I will contact them today. Once I get the parts and get them welded up, I can start testing. The prototype will go on my 123 ('82 240D). If all goes well, it should only take a couple weeks to get the parts all fabricated ready for cad plating. Plating is a new thing for me, but I have a friend who has cad plating done often. He will set me up. I am only guessing, but the kits may be ready for sale by the end of October. Please don't quote me on that....Rich

I may want at least two. I have a rattler R4 and a couple of other AC jobs coming up.

Here's good reason to go with the Sanden.

Thanks for the link, it is a good read. I am glad I started this project rather than going ahead with the CW R4 I purchased. I returned it because it was VERY hard to turn right out of the box. I might have had A/C in my SD a few months sooner, but the R4 might not have lasted the summer. The $40 USED Sanden I installed is working like a champ!

Rich, What cars used the Sanden that is needed? Wasn't there various head/port arrangements used?

Many 80's and newer cars used the Sanden (or other brand). If it is a genuine Sanden brand, many different heads are available. Most applications use O ring style ports exiting vertical, but some of the older units use flare fittings exiting vertical as well. The other brands that I have seen are: Sankyo & York. They all share the same mounting and pulley configuration.

I pulled my sanden off of a late 80's VW cabriolet at the PNP. It has the rear exit head already with o-ring connections and a v-belt pulley. I figured the head would be worth the $20 I spent on it since it was a 50% off weekend even if the compressor turned out to be bad but it spins nicely with a little compression so I think I found a good compressor. Haven't had time to do anything with it just yet but I'm very eager to get it installed.

Good to hear of that source for used compressors. The rear exiting ports are a bonus, as it makes it so much easier to route hoses.
