I did it again!

:D:D A few months ago I stumbled upon a Smoke Silver 87 300D with a Maroon interior on Facebook marketplace listed for $1200 with front end damage. Bambi jumped out and bent the rad support and pushed the wheel house about 3 inches from the tire inward

I lost the guys contact info and somehow found it again about two weeks ago. I decided to ring him up and see if he sold it. to my surprise and not so surprise it wasn't sold. Too many tire kickers. I took a chance on driving up to connecticut and saw the car.

It's about a 8/10 cosmetically if you take away the front end damage. The interior is 10/10 and the car doesn't have a spec of rust being a Florida car all it's life until very recently while still being garage kept. It has 95k miles on it. The frame rail itself is okay on the unibody.

I got a 95 e300 Shell that has no driveline I'll cut the wheel house out of and radiator support and hopefully straighten the old hood and replace the grill and bumper and I think I found myself a keeper. :)

I pick it up Wednesday courtesy of a AAA premier membership with a free 200 mile tow.

I plan to do update it with the surgery it's about to undergo with my welder!

Sounds like a nice basis for a project!

Take pics.

Ya may not want to weld in the wheelhouse, it may be better to pull it back out.

I'll grab some this week when I get it.

What makes you say not to weld in the wheel house? How do you suggest pulling it back? come a long?

It really is Tom. I'm excited. I should be able to turn key and go once the body damage is fixed. The tires are brand new, brakes etc. It's in very good shape. Being such low mileage too I'm not worried about the head as long as I keep up with maintenance form here on out. It's very well kept.

Did you register the car first? AAA will not tow a car unless it is registered to you. I am not sure if if needs to be insured also.

Just throw any tag with an up to date sticker on it and you’re good to go with AAA

That is the goal. Just to move it on a tow is no big deal.

That will work if the tow guy do not ask for your registration.

True. I have a buddy for AAA who does tow trucks a lot of times they don't get paid enough to care. I think it's about $8 an hour usually as long as there's a plate they just load it and get on the road.

Can not post pics on this forum. Starting at post #47 thru #53 is how I pulled the front end more or less straight on a 83CDT. More Fun, 1983 300CD - Mercedes-Benz Forum
