Recommend Rollguy's Sanden a/c compressor conversion kit

I put a Sanden compressor on my 82 240D using Rollguy's conversion kit. I had previously installed a parallel flow condenser and new aux fan. Works great, especially when car is stopped in traffic. I highly recommend this conversion. All the parts fit perfectly and the Sanden compressor is smooth, quiet and efficient. The instructions are easy to follow. I split the job over three or four tinkering sessions so it didn't kill this old dude lol. Rich is honest and quick to help with good advice by email.

I have installed two of his kits into my two W123's and both AC's blow nice and cold. Just got back from a cross country trip of 3800 miles and was in outside temps of 95ş+ in our 85' 300TD. Was nice to have a cool butt while crossing the country.

Thumbs up

I'm saving my pennies for this, SWMBO wants me to fix the AC in my graymarket 1984 300TD, it needs a hose, I figure to do the whole shooting match in one go, Sanden compressor, cross flow condenser, new receiver-drier and expansion valve plus all hoses .

I too have dealt with Rich before and found him to be honest and reliable .

58-62F is not good AC performance. Something's not right

I am getting 40 F vent temp with a stock system with a remanfactured R4 and R12 freon.

58-62 degrees seems to suggest that the recirculation flap isn't closing. If it is closed, then that's terrible performance. It was 98˚F here yesterday and after 5 minutes of driving I was enjoying 44˚ air in the SDL on the stock system with a reman Denso (stock compressor for Gen II 126) charged with 134a. When the solenoid block was acting up and the flap would open, 55˚ or so was normal when it acted up. Make sure the recirc flap is closing, they make a world of difference. The hotter and muggier it is, the more difference it makes.

Is this with the stock fan, or did you upgrade to a larger fan when you replaced the condenser? Mine is probably closer to 60-65 degrees at the vent when in traffic (and when are you not in traffic in Austin these days). I’m running R134a with a R4, stock condenser, and stock fan. The marginal a/c on the car is the only thing I dislike about it....really makes me consider my aunt’s ‘94 LS400 that she’s always trying to unload on me!

60* from vents at 90* outside is within specs per FSM on my 2000 Dodge Cummins.

That's a completely normal value when using outside air, or when running with the windows/doors open. 60˚ air coming from the vents in a vehicle is barely noticeable as cold. With the recirculation engaged and the system running properly, it should be easily in the upper 40s after 5 minutes or so of operation.

High vent temperatures after appropriate time for the cabin to pull down on a correctly charged system point to either a leaking monovalve or recirculation flaps that aren't closing fully or at all.

The vent temperature also depends on the blower speed. At higher speeds, it will be less but you will get more cooling output. Depends on how you adjust the vents. Some people like to run a lower speed w/ colder air blowing right at their face. That can work when the load is too high to cool the entire cabin. On 110 F days here, driving into the afternoon sun, no AC system is entirely sufficient, so air in the face is the best you can do.

What's a ballpark figure to retool a tired a/c system to this setup?
