Om603 transplant into om602 car
I just picked up an 87 300D body is rough(paint bad, some rust) but engine was in really nice shape with a #17 head and nice shifting transmission. I drove it home (2 hours) and was thinking of doing an engine transplant into my 86 250D euro which has a nice body but a tired engine. I’ve owned w124s for a couple years now so I’m pretty familiar with working on them and their layout. Is there anything I’m missing in doing this change out? Does everything line up on the body and in the engine bay? Motor mounts and tranny mount? I will be transferring pretty much the radiator, cooling hoses, exhaust, tranny, and drive shaft. I will have to see if the rear end ratio is the same. Looks like I will have to relocate a couple minor things in the engine bay (windshield washer bottle, aux water pump, heater core hoses. Thanks for any input!

I think you have it much nailed, you'll also have to move from the 87 the speedo cable, netural safety harness and diff pinion. Im still contemplating a similar transplant.

You'll need to also swap over the 722.3 transmission to replace the weaker 722.4 in the 250D. The driveshaft, center carrier and imput flange into the diff will also be different. Plan to swap everything including the diff.
