Has anyone added a non MB cruise control?

I have had a couple, three is a couple, one had a CC which worked a little, not much but a little. The other two not even a little. So when I put a 617T into my 83 240D, I just removed it all. There are a number of Electronic type CC's on the market, but they usually say for cable throttle control only. I was just wondering if anyone has installed one and if it works well. I would love to have one if it works. The effort it takes to run the throttle on these old diesels is pretty substantial right at the pump. Is it to much of a load?

There is one thread from about 2011 on using another make of cruise control.

If you do a image.google.seach and get some under the hood pics of the older w123's they used a different cruise control that mounted on the fender well then the one on my 84 W123. The three holes on the fender well for the older cruise control are still on the late w123's

I used an Audiovox CC100 aftermarket cruise system on my '82 300SD for several years, it was more than strong enough to hold the throttle and keep the car around 80mph easily. It had an electronically controlled vacuum pod with a cable that I attached up on top of the valve cover to the linkage, worked great! I even took the old cruise amp out, cut it up and soldered some of the control wires to the socket so I could use the stock stalk. I had set/increase/decrease/cancel + brake pedal would also cancel it.

That’s very interesting, pawoSD. Just wondering if you ever put it out here, somewhere, any details on how you executed the various aspects of your CC installation? I’m betting a whole lot of people would be interested and grateful for your insights and experience accomplishing what you did!
