A W123.123

Anybody out there have one of the long body 300D sedans (beside me)?

I just picked a fairly ugly one from Baltimore CL.

Rust isn't the worst of it. Somebody decided to reshape the rear with some fiberglass to make it "Lincoln-like".

That could be worse, it’s not like Les Dunham got ahold of it.

Doesn't look that bad to me. Congratulations on a unique find!

It was purchased on my 13yo's birthday. He has hopes of being driven to school in it.

The passenger side shows it needing a rocker panel. The interior has a few rips on the front seats that a sheepskin will cover over for a while. The PO was told the motor is blown, but he said the mechanic sounded more interested in the work replacing it than the work to diagnose an actual problem.

The car will sit for a few months while I clean up a few other odds and ends. If nothing else, I can make sure my spare OM617a is still sound.

...looks like a door from a sedan, door frame from a wagon and rear fender from a coupe.

There's probably some largish bent steel under there connecting the two halves of cars. Front including two sets of doors from a wagon and rear from a coupe. That connecting part(s) may be what is rusting, not being rust protected like a factory benz.

Maybe stock front seats from a four door, middle seats from (front) a coupe and rear seat from a coupe?

it's a factory made car with a cowl around the rear window that shall come off.
I had a 250 lang a while back (and foolishly sold it to a "friend" who never paid for it).

That back door looks like any sedan rear door grafted gingerly to a factory front door, keeping the rectangular parts of each. The cowl is extended to the rear door to restore the shorter sedan's curved window. G-d knows why.

Under that cowl is the rear-most window, much like the coupe would have it in the body's space.

coming. Car should be safely in my clutches Sunday. So far, I've only paid for it.

I had a slight detour 2 weeks back when a young lady tried to drive through my Suburban at an intersection. She told the cop she didn't see me because 2 other people ahead of her made the left turn first. Thankfully, she only smashed the rear door, quarter panel, cracked the rim and broke a U-bolt holding the rear axle to the car.

I could have been worse. Since only one of my boys was with me that morning, he was riding shotgun instead of sitting directly behind me, leaning on that door. I had to rent a car to get to the seller in Baltimore to pay for the car.

I see the bottom of the rear door is square like the front door. ...Clever use of existing parts collected up and sewn together by a skilled craftsman.

That's a factory feature. The W123.123 came off the line that way. -cth

How it should look -

Is the rest of the middle row included or are you stuck with the bar?
