95 E300D, master cylinder and ASR - anti-skid
I've searched for some time trying to find a master cylinder repair kit for my 95 E300D. Haven't been able to find one.
Questions 1. Did all the late 94 & 95 E300D's have ASR as a standard feature? 2. How do I prove my E300D has ASR? 3. The EPC shows only one master cylinder part # of 0054306201 for my E300D. It seems to be unique to late 94 & the 95 E300D's. Do the earlier master cylinders bolt up to replace the 0054306201? I would like to find one that is rebuildable. |

ASR was an option. If you have ASR fitted, you will have a yellow idiot light immediately above the hub on the speedometer needle. It's extremely obvious if it's present.
A good number of the later cars had aluminum master cylinders. Rebuilding aluminum master cylinders is a losing battle. When they wear out, there's often pitting or scoring on the walls of the cylinder. You're money and time ahead to replace it, then keep up with brake fluid changes to keep moisture out.

ASD in E300, not ASR
Team,
To be technically correct, the 1995 E300 diesel had ASD as an option, not ASR. ASD is the hydraulic system that locks up the differential if a certain amount of slip is detected in the two rear wheels. ASR is the electronic system which slows the electronic throttle if slip is detected, an option on the gas 124 cars. |

Spot on, its ASD for yellow triangle. When the wheel speed sensor went on my 300E TD lost steering as well

The 95's owners manual doesn't have any info on the ASR ( shouldn't since it wasn't an option ), the ASD was mentioned. After reading about the ASD I'm glad mine didn't have that installed. Also wish some of the info on websites would be complete and say the master cylinder would work with or without the ASR option. Still wondering if an older style master cylinder would work with my Lucas booster.
I told a friend today that if a woman wanted lots of free time to do as she pleases, then she should buy her husband an older Mercedes Benz. Just a few minutes ago mine asked 'why are you on the computer so much?'. It seems like every time I drive the car a new puzzle arises that requires research. Today's was ' the dash indicator lights were flakey'. |

Brake booster would have nothing to do with it having ASD. That system would have a hydraulic tank mounted behind the left headlight similar to a self leveling suspension tank.

The master cylinder along with slaves were one of those outsourced options, not sure about USA but here in UK came with either Girling or Lucus - not very expensive either, last one as OEM $80-ish
Agree on rebuild kits, metal very soft, hard to tell if bore worn.

I replaced the MC on my '95 E300 several years ago, I have have kept the old MC to see if it is rebuild-able but I think I ended up recycling it.
