CANT FIND A RADIATOR! na617

hello everyone. I'm new with the Mercedes diesel world, got the car in may of this year, love the car and been doing lot of tinkering with the car my self. (try not to take to the shop too much) NOW I am really stumped . I'm trying to fined a 1978 300d radiator that has a filler neck on the radiator. I called local parts store and near by MB dealer (Washington) and no luck. At one point I was thinking of getting the 240d radiator but on the forms, lot of not so good things will happen to the car. Is there any way I can fined a '78 300d radiator OR use the turbo radiator (I think '81 and up) with the expansion tank. Has any on have or had that problem??? If do any ideas?????

I have read that the 300 N/A radiators aren't available anymore, OEM or aftermarket. I have an N/A as well so I hope someone chimes in with a source. Supposedly the turbo radiator and tank will work but you have to change the shroud if I remember correctly.

Several companies will make what you want if you provide pics and dimensions. Try BeCool and others like that. Jeg's can have what we need for the Volvo made for us. They aren't cheap but not as bad as you think it'll be - I'm expecting $500-600 in aluminum, 3 row and about 26x18 but I haven't actually measured it yet.

They are available again, but you won't like the price.....

Pelican Parts - Product Information: 123-501-44-01-MBZ

If your ac, isn't working and no plans to get it working again....You can use a 240D radiator...but if you have ac it isn't recommended...

I can make these in aluminum, based on your original core. Without a sample in front of me, I'd guess it would cost around $500. That would be with a two row racing core (two large rows is better than three small rows).

I think you could use a 240d radiator. All euro 300d's came with a 240d radiator. My 1984 euro 300d with a 240d radiator is fine even in 110 degree Phoenix, AZ heat.

They are interchangible. The 300 rad and the 240 have the same location of hoses and mount clamps but the 300 rad is about 3 to 4" wider. I have a 240 rad too.

Found this thread from last year.

Did a Google on part# 123-501-44-01, and seems a lot of the hits are from Alababba.com.

Found this on rock auto, a Nissans 62660

You can put on a 300D turbo radiator. You just need to weld (or otherwise bolt or attach) the clip for the overflow tank. It may end up being the cheapest option.

do you use air conditioning? if not then the 240D radiator is perfectly fine. it would be easier to go that route than getting a turbo radiator, which you'd need a new fan shroud and coolant bottle for. also you have a wide selection of inexpensive aftermarket 240D radiators.

Do you do this kind of work? We might need to talk on the Volvo rad - I'd rather work with someone I "know".

Please PM me your Email address and I'll send pics and dimensions.

the car has A/C but no plan to fix it at the moment, so ill try the 240d radiator. if I do get the 240d radiator, do I have to get different fan shroud?

The fan shroud may work.
