W116 300sd Lower Radiator Hose
Own a 1979 300sd (w116) and need to replace the Lower Radiator Hose.
Classic Center no longer carries the hose (part#1165013682). I tried Pelican Parts and they also don't have it. Ordered the lower radiator hose from O'riellys a few months ago and tried to install it yesterday. Hose did not fit due to the natural bend being out of place and it being short. Pulling on the hose to make it reach compromises the natural bend. Any ideas on where I can source out a good (tight fit) hose? Any recommendation is greatly appreciated |

Why would anyone make one; it's just a lower radiator hose, nothing important. Haha. Yeah, it's unbelievable that no one seems to make one. Was it the GATES 20700 that I purchased and still haven't installed? I hope not. I can tell just by looking at it that it's a smaller diameter and bent differently than the original, but hope it will still work.
AutoZone sells a DAYCO C70705, which is probably going to be a similar fit to the GATES 20700. You can also take your chances and order a ÜRO brand hose from eBay or AutoZone. Otherwise, you can use a beautiful universal fit flex hose. Haha. Yeah, if the GATES 20700 hose doesn't fit, I'm going to be upset, because then I guess I'll be forced to buy ÜRO. There is another possible option if you are patient--an Australian-made Mackay brand CH4421 (odd since the W116 300SD was never sold there) https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mackay-Radiator-Hose-Bottom-CH4421-/161881381605 I may go this route...

Gates 20700 is a No, Dayco is a yes

Purchased the Dayco C70705 hose (Made in U.S.A) at AutoZ and it fits really good. My local AutoZ had one in stock. No leaks detected yet Will report back tomorrow |

I had thought about ordering in a Dayco hose just to see how it compared, but figured the fitment would be the same and I read through several Gates vs Dayco hose debate threads where the consensus was Gates was superior and Dayco had issues with fitting too loosely, bubbling, or coming apart. Those threads were years old, however, and quality can change over some years. I'll probably order in a Dayco hose if your report back is a positive one.

The AutoZone DAYCO C70705 (made in USA) lower radiator hose seems to be a better fit than the O'Reilly GATES 20700 (made in [conveniently rubbed off]), just from looking at it. The opening at the bottom is larger than the Gates hose and closer to the size of the Mercedes hose. It also doesn't have the weird bend near the bottom. However, the upper bend turns forward instead of backwards, but hopefully those hose will flex enough for this to not be a problem.
In both pictures, the hose order goes, left to right: Mercedes, Dayco, Gates. I will post the fitment results after I install the hose, which might not be anytime soon.

I didn't know about the Continental option, either. I probably would have chosen it first. Interestingly, the hose in the photo looks identical to the shape of the Gates one and the lower opening also looks too small. I wish I could see a CONTINENTAL 66483 next to the GATES 20700 and the DAYCO 70705, but if it's anything like the picture above, it looks like it would fit the same as the Gates.

When first got my Mercedes I changed the Radiator Hoses and the By-pass hose section. I bought URO Radiator Hoses. That was in 2007. The only functional issue I had was the upper hose was an extremely tight fit over the nipples.
Other then that no deterioration issues. (Never had an Oil or other contaminants get on them.) and they survived some an over heating incident caused by a leaking Water Pump.

Hmm I just searched my favorite genuine Mercedes parts site and it pulled the part up 25$ and about 41 with shipping. Also did south Atlanta benz they offer it to 49$ shipped
Probably could order it through pelican, but it is still available. That is good to know on the Uro hose though, I would figure the lower radiator hose would be a safer purchase on a uro part.
