Timing chain riveting/crimping tool

I will be installing a timing chain in an OM621 engine which is basically the same as an OM616 and OM617 engine. I see riveting tools on eBay and Amazon which state they fit Mercedes W203 and W212 models, as well as 1998 and newer vehicles. These tools are shaped like a "C" and have a handle attached with other adapters included. They range in price from roughly $70 up to around $300.

My question is will these work with the older diesel engines? I don't know why there would be any major difference between the timing chains of the newer and older cars so don't see why they would not work. Has anyone had any experience using these type tools on the older engines? Thanks in advance.
