om617 oil filter canister question
 

Hello,

I have my oil filter canister removed on my om617.952 and when I removed the trapezoid shaped plate off the back where the turbo line bolts to, there was a small black piece of broken plastic that fell out (looked it be half round)

Where the canister mates to the block, those two black plastic round (benz emblem shaped parts) are there.

Does anyone have an idea of what that could have been? Is this a problem?

I have not scene anyone posting on your issue previously. There is a Thermostat and a bypass valve and ? in the housing what you found could be part of one of those.

If you can't see where the missing piece came from you might consider removing those parts and see for sure were the piece came from.

Instructions will only be found in the Factory Service Manual. There used to be some free online service manual sites but I don't know what is available any more.

Some one in the past changed the Thermostat in the Oil Filter but I can't recall if it was even on this forum and if there was any pictures.
