OM642 OPERATING TEMP
What is the correct operating temperature for the OM642 engine in 2009 E320? The temp on the dash gauge is 60 to 70C. I am suspecting this is too low.

Depends on the ambient temperature
If that was a true reading at say 20 degrees C then I'd say yes too low. If it was -20 C then I'd say put some cardboard in between the grill and the radiator |
Thermostat time.
Surprised it’s not throwing a code for that. My three 642s run at 85 to 90 deg C all year round. Although I live in SC where a 30 deg F day is a cold day. |
I installed a new thermostat today. I bought a laser thermometer first to verify the actual temperature. Didn't know if I had a thermostat or dash thermometer problem. The dash thermometer is accurate.

Replacing mine tomorrow. It's barely hitting 80C and regens are too frequent. Hope this helps the regen frequency.
