84 300TD leaking headliner

I was hoping anyone can you help me find where the drain hole for my leaking headliner could be at. I posted a picture for reference

Water drips the driver side top headliner in between the slit

Probably a clogged or rusted sun sunroof drain. Open the sunroof in a dark garage or put a blanket over it, get a flashlight (one with a focused narrow beam) and look into the corners where the sunroof resides. There is a drain in each corner that can and does get clogged. Lawn line trimmer line can be good for chasing them open.

They also clog at the bottom in the wheel wells where the drains exit. Elevate the front of the car and pour water into the rear drains to learn where the exit is and elevate the rear to check the fronts. Using electrical duct seal you can make small dams to contain and guide the water poured.

These drains are what prevent sunroof leaks in addition to and more so than sunroof seals.

Good luck!!!

Harbor Freight has a small drain snake that works well for cleaning the drains. I think someone posed a pic of the drains with the headliner removed when I asked a similar question recently for a 126.

The sun rood sits in a metal frame and the drains are in the corners. They are essentially metal tubes going into rubber hoses. Someone can post back if they are different on a TD.

I finally figured everything out with a FSM and disassembling the sun roof. Easy after you know how.

I'm not familiar with the Harbor Freight drain cleaner; but, whatever you use be gentle. The drains are old and fragile, if one is punctured the headliner will have to be removed to make the repair.

Good luck!!!

You could put tape or something else over the pointed end if necessary. I had a little trouble finding the rear drains but finally found the hole. Compressed air may work too.

I didn't read any of the replies above, but I think your drains might be clogged or even rusted. I used a bicycle cable housing to push through.

The front drains will drain down the A pillar behind the fender wall. It is very un-elegant. From my recollection, the tube from the drain above terminates above the fender and just dumps water inbetween the fender wall and onto the floor.

The rear runs all the way back on the c pillar underneath that molding that runs along the frame.
