Car blows lukewarm heat.
Hi everybody I have a 1984 Mercedes 300 turbo diesel and I'm having a significant miss you in regards to the heating system. In this time of the year the weather is getting colder as we are inching in December and a working Heating system is a must. Yesterday I was changing the a overflow end plug that broke off the injector I put in a 1/8 vaccum plug as a temporary plug until the part comes.
Afterwards when I was driving on the road I noticed my heator was blowing luke warm air and not hot like it did before. Also I noticed that the temp guage struggles to get to proper 80 degree tempature unlike before it got there instantly. What happend during the process when I was changing the end plug? I should mention drops of diesel were splurging on the block but nothing to crazy. |

Engine temp is not connected to anything with the fuel supply nor the work you did.
Check that the coolant is full, if yes... The thermostat needs to be replaced and is a critical item, be certain to use a GOOD one. Start soaking the three thermostat housing bolts with penetrating oil every day a few days in advance while the engine is warm but not hot. Good luck!!!

I think this is a different problem, a thermostat failed open. The thermostat housing is where the coolant hoses at the front of the engine come together. It might also be a bubble in the system too.
It looks easy to change but the lower bolt on the 3-bolt flange is usually corroded in place and easy to break. I've got spares on hand, but that means changing the whole housing and re-sealing it to the engine block. Make sure the system is full of coolant and rev it up to pump any bubbles through Without a spare housing, I wouldn't try and take the thermostat housing off without tools to drill out a broken bolt and either tap the hole to a larger size or just drill through the flange and put a nut on the back side of a new bolt.

^^^ X2 on moon161's broken bolt advice ^^^
Start soaking them often when the engine is warm but cooling off, it wicks the penetrating oil in place.
