Breather.... Just wondering..

So on a 300TD, can a valve cover filter (clamp on style) be ran instead of the evac tube that routes back into the breather, or is there to much oil vapor....

It'll work if you're fine with having oil slobber all over the valve cover ;)

Heck I got that now with the normal elbow fitting!! That's what I was looking at replaced a the stock stuff or just doing the filter...

I would at least run a hose down under the car. I don't think a filter is necessary. I use a catch can with the drain going to the stock drain location and the vapor running under the car.

I know I'll regret asking, but what is the thinking here?

20% of the pollutants produced by your engine escape via the breather. Drawing that back into the intake allows most if to to be burned, with no measurable impact on performance or fuel economy. If you freshen the grommets and hoses, there's no mess. So again, what is the thinking here?

No it's cool, ask away!! I know you can't improve on factory, very much... Just looking at improving air flow and cleaning up a bit..

I wouldn't, there is a lot more to it than that. If I remember right it actually has an oil separator in the air cleaner so the vapors get burned by the engine, and the oil drains back into the pan doesn't it? Its not like an old American V8 where you can easily omit all of that.

It does to an extent, that's why I was thinking and oil/seperator/catch can.. Would drain the oil back the factory way... Just be able to clean up the engine bay a little bit.

That leaves all the blowby gas going atmospheric. You can go oil change to oil change without topping up, so what does the recovery can do that the the stock system doesn't? What's there works.

For me it was more about getting rid of the 30 pound air cleaner housing rattling the entire car, so it was more than just doing a catch can for the sake of doing it. Lots of different ways to go.

The mounts are easy to change, but get them from the dealer. If it rattles enough to keep breaking them there is something wrong with the engine making it run too rough. If the bracket is broken its a little bit harder but still not bad at all, you just need a wobble extension to get the one bolt underneath the bracket.

It's the mount itself someone tried to fix it at one time... I'll be messing with it Tuesday and figure out the way I want to go...
